“Natural Causes” by singer-songwriter Richard Landis did not make the Billboard pop charts, though it did hit number 40 on the Easy Listening chart. It’s identified as an album track, but it was released as a single—maybe it hadn’t been yet though. It’ll reach number 44 in five weeks on the survey. Landis became a successful record producer and music executive.

Also a successful record producer is Giorgio Moroder, whose Europop hit “Son of My Father” will reach number 16 here versus 46 in Billboard. The big international hit version was by the group Chicory Tip, though theirs only got to number 91 in the US.

Harry Chapin’s “Taxi,” a number 24 BB hit, will go to number twelve, while Roberta Flack’s “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” will spend three weeks at number one (six weeks nationally). That leaves “Runnin’ Away” by Sly & the Family Stone (23BB/19KJR).

Shirley Bassey--Diamonds Are Forever

Last week’s number two and number six records switch places; otherwise the top six is unchanged.

Overall, this week’s debuts will perform very similarly here to their national popularity. Shirley Bassey’s “Diamonds Are Forever” (57BB/32KJR) has the biggest discrepancy, then Michael Jackson’s version of “Rockin’ Robin” (2/7), while the others are Sonny and Cher’s last big hit, “A Cowboy’s Work is Never Done” (8/8), “Betcha By Golly, Wow” by the Stylistics (3/4), and “In the Rain” by the Dramatics (5/3).
