Gallery--Nice to Be With You

David Bowie’s “Changes” drops off, but it’ll be back next week.

Six debuts, all of which made the top 25 in Billboard, and all of which will make the top 25 here. Nothing too dramatic as far as differences—the biggest is “Give Ireland Back to the Irish,” Paul McCartney’s first record credited to Wings, a number 21 national hit that will reach number eleven. The others: “Family of Man” by Three Dog Night (12BB/19KJR), Love Unlimited’s “Walkin’ in the Rain With the One I Love” (14/24), “Baby Blue” by Badfinger (14/25), Aretha Franklin’s “Day Dreaming” (5/5), and “Nice to Be With You” by Gallery (4/1).

Harry Chapin--Taxi

“Natural Causes” by singer-songwriter Richard Landis did not make the Billboard pop charts, though it did hit number 40 on the Easy Listening chart. It’s identified as an album track, but it was released as a single—maybe it hadn’t been yet though. It’ll reach number 44 in five weeks on the survey. Landis became a successful record producer and music executive.

Also a successful record producer is Giorgio Moroder, whose Europop hit “Son of My Father” will reach number 16 here versus 46 in Billboard. The big international hit version was by the group Chicory Tip, though theirs only got to number 91 in the US.

Harry Chapin’s “Taxi,” a number 24 BB hit, will go to number twelve, while Roberta Flack’s “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” will spend three weeks at number one (six weeks nationally). That leaves “Runnin’ Away” by Sly & the Family Stone (23BB/19KJR).
